Why
Should I Get A Credit Card?
by: Tom Tessin
A credit card is
the first step you will need to take in order to build credit so that
you can be approved for a loan, mortgage or anything related to checking
your credit report. All of these things are going to come along sooner
or later in the future and it’s always helpful to have this
credit card so that you can build your credit.
A credit card is
completely up to you. No one is holding a gun to your head forcing
you to get a credit card. Credit cards are intended for emergency
uses or a interest-free loan if you pay the bill in full each month.
Remember, credit card companies make their money by charging ridiculous
interest rates. This is why it’s important to pay it off in
full.
Credit cards are
not only for people looking to build credit; it’s also for that
person who doesn’t have a lot of money in their wallet or purse.
A credit card always comes in handy when you need to use it in emergency
situations. Can you imagine going into the gas station not having
any cash on hand? What would you do if you didn’t have your
credit card?
Not only does a
credit help build your credit, it will also help you with your future
home. Why is this? The better your credit score is, the better rate
you are going to get. This will lower you payments significantly!
If you don’t have a credit score and/or two hundred thousand
dollars, you better plan on staying at the parent’s house for
a few more years. Even if you plan on renting, most landlords will
check your score.
Just think about
all of this for a second. Say you were renting out your bedroom to
a stranger. You would want to know if they have paid their bills in
the past and if they are responsible enough. This is exactly what
a credit score is for. Now you won’t have to charge ridiculous
amounts each month to build your credit. It can all build up over
time. All you need to do is simply charge a few things a month and
make sure you pay your payment on time! A late payment will always
kill your credit score, so beware.
Please remember
that a credit card isn’t for everyone. If you tend to think
you’re going to be the one that treats it as “free money”,
then a credit card isn’t for you. It’s probably safe to
wait a few more years and mature as you realize what and how hard
money is to make and use properly. No one is forcing you to get a
credit card. It’s only going to help you in the long run with
your loans and mortgages. It’s all in your hands!
