When looking for a credit card, it’s more than just a loan anymore. Almost every credit card today offers some sort of incentive to have you sign-up. What incentive is the greatest, you may ask?
From zero percent balance transfers to ten thousand bonus points, it can be a struggle to find out what exactly works for you. Everything can benefit you in some way but it’s best to choose the card that you will actually gain the most use out of. For example, if you live in the city and don’t even own a car, the Discover Open Road card wouldn’t be a card for you, seeing that the discounted gas rates won’t help you at all. Instead, you would want to lean toward a card that would give you points, where you can then go and purchase gift cards, etc.
When looking at each and every card, you will want to ask yourself the following questions –
Will these benefits help me out all the time?
Will I be able to use the rewards?
Is it something that will always be good?
Let’s take the city example again. Let’s say you’re moving from Nebraska and you’re selling your car. At the moment, that open road card would have come in handy but once that car is gone, the credit card is pretty much useless on the reward front. You’ll be raking up a lot of points but you won’t be able to use them!
Most of the time your best bet is to go for the card that offers you points. The point system is a great system because for every dollar you spend, you will get X amount of points. These points are as good as cash where you can spend them at the credit card company’s store. You can get anything from gift cards to televisions to just about anything imaginable.
The whole point of this article is to remind you that every credit card out there today offers a great reward. Don’t just get a credit card with any reward points. That would be silly. You should at least get something for what you spend. It all adds up in the long run!
Besides the reward front part of it, a lot of companies will also offer a 0% balance transfer or 0% APY for 6 months, etc. This can help you out a lot if you’re in a lot of debt. It’s always better to pay nothing on your debt instead of 18% or whatever your interest rate may be.
These rewards are usually pretty easy to come by. It’s as simple as going to your mailbox and looking at all of the junk applications you get daily. You can also do a simple search online or even go to the card companies website to the get the information you need.
When looking for a card whether it is for the reward points or balance transfers, you have to remember to be responsible. Don’t spend the money that you don’t have because credit cards aren’t free money! If you spend too much, you may lose track and dig yourself in a deeper hole than you want to be in. Please remember to be responsible.
