by: FINDcollegecards.com

Most college students are on tight budgets. That’s because students have time to study and attend class, but not much time for a full time job to support themselves. If they have financial aid or if their parents support them, or a mixture of both, they will still have to balance their budget and focus on their finances. Fortunately, there are ways for a college student to manage their finances and save money.

Roommates
College students on a budget can really save money by getting some roommates. The more people there are sharing an apartment the more ways there are to divide the bills. That means, a four bedroom apartment could house between four and eight people. This means if you split the bills four ways or even eight ways you get out a lot cheaper. Of course, the more people you share with the more patient you will have to be with things like cleaning, the bathroom, and the like. However, if you are on a tight budget it might be worth it.

Live at Home
If you live close to your university, you may consider living with your parents. This would really cut back on the bills and you could save a lot of money. This is hard for college students to do because they have to follow their parents’ rules, but it is a good way to save money. You could always start out living with your parents until you save up enough money to get your own place.

Groceries
One thing you could do is buy your own groceries rather than use a cafeteria plan. Most of the time you will save a lot of money by doing this and you will be able to eat the foods you like. There are a lot of inexpensive foods you can buy as long as you know what you are looking for. Things like macaroni and cheese, pasta, bread, peanut butter, eggs, and the like are all pretty affordable and good. They will keep you full and you won’t spend all of your money!

Online Course
If tuition is killing you, consider taking online courses. Most of the time these courses are much cheaper than on campus courses and they count the same amount of credit hours. You will save money not driving to class and you will probably save on your book, too. Online course are real popular, so consider this to help you save money!

There are lots of ways college students can save money and it is important to learn these rules early on. Go ahead and start using these tips and you will find that it won’t take long for you to get used to them and save money while you are at it.
