Best College Student Credit Card Rates
by: FINDcollegecards.com

If you’re looking for the best student credit card rates, you may find that most credit cards that focus on college students are relatively similar in a way.  The bad thing about getting a student credit card is that most credit cards are focused to first time card appliers.  This means that the credit card company can get away with making their rates higher knowing you’ll apply for them.

In this article, I’ll explain exactly which credit card company has the best average rates usually and which ones you probably should target if a rate is important to you, which it should be!  You also have to remember just because it has a low rate; does this mean it’s going to have the right rewards for you?  In other words, is this credit card going to benefit you?

Below we have conducted the average rates of a few credit card companies over the past month.  Keep in mind that most credit card companies usually don’t change their rates drastically, so even in the future, you may still find that this credit card company offers the best rate.  These rates are as of February 1, 2008.

Citi® Bank Credit Cards:   14% Average

Discover® Credit Cards:  17% Average

American Express® Credit Cards:  17% Average

Bank of America® Credit Cards:  19% Average

Chase® Credit Cards:   19% Average

As you can see the rates don’t differ that much.  The leader, Citi® Bank has an average of 14% which is great for a college student while Chase® and Bank of America® have one of the highest averages, which isn’t that bad when you really think of it.  Giving 19% to a college student with no credit history is awfully nice.

Which credit card would we recommend you might ask?  While every credit card suits everyone’s needs, you can’t go wrong with Citi® Bank’s credit card lineup.  They offer a great selection of credit cards that offer many rewards ranging from cash back to driving rewards.  On top of their great rewards, they also offer a very low APR for first time card appliers.  This is great for college students looking to establish credit.  Remember that if you pay your credit card off in time each month, you won’t have to worry about your APR rate.

When applying for your student credit card, don’t let an APR rate scare you away, unless it’s in the 30’s and up.  This of course will only apply to bad credit credit cards.  If the card has the rewards you want and it looks like something that can benefit you, go ahead and apply for it and make sure you pay off your bill each month.  By doing so, you can avoid your fees and live a wonderful debt free life.
