You may think that High school is the worst thing ever, but you may start to think that college is even worse!  If you’re thinking this, you may want to know why college is better than High School.

People want to be there

As opposed to the attitude shared by most high school students, college students paid to attend class, and therefore they want to be there. When someone wants to be at school, their disposition is much brighter and their enthusiasm is contagious. Many times, since high school students have no choice in the matter, they spread an attitude of tiredness and irritation that brings their peers down. When you feel better about what you’re doing it shows academically.

You are treated with respect

When you are in college, many of your peers are adults. For this reason, teachers treat their students with dignity and respect, rather than trying to be forceful and boss them around. You are expected to do your work when it is assigned, and other responsibilities, such as studying. Along with the respect come new adult-like responsibilities, comes more room for freedom and independence. Also, if there is an emergency or something else comes up, you have the freedom to leave class at any time (whether it has ended or not), rather than having to explain yourself to an office or anyone else.

Work is meaningful

In college, the work, assignments, and tests you complete are all meaningful. There is no busy work or random worksheets designed to keep students entertained while teachers go do other things. Teachers devote their time to you and show it in their material. Often, classes that are extensions of high school classes (such as biology, chemistry, English, and ext) cover more material and lecture in one week than would be covered in an entire high school quarter. You leave class at the end of the day feeling full, as though you’ve really learned a lot and that the hour was worth your time.
