Why College Students Drop Out Of College

College is an important part of any one’s life. This is where you’re going to better yourself, meet new people and hopefully down the long road, you’ll make more money than the guy who didn’t attend college at all.
For all those who are wondering, not everyone finishes college, in fact one in four freshman drop out and if you’re one of those four who are thinking about quitting, you should look at the main reasons on why students drop out of college.
World of Warcraft – This sounds really dumb but it’s true! A nationwide study recently indicated that the reason that most college students drop out of college is due to the popular video game, World of Warcraft or known as WOW throughout the gaming community. World of Warcraft is a RPG based game that is truly addictive. With over 11 million players, students have found that their addiction has interfered with their college studies.
Not focusing – Sure, you can have fun in college but some kids have too much fun. Instead of focusing on studying, etc, some students would much rather drink beer and talk until five in the morning. Once they find they can’t get the grades they want, they become frustrated and quit. College isn’t cheap and it isn’t high school anymore. Make school your number one priority while you’re going, you won’t regret it.
Depression / Homesickness - A lot of students every year move away from home and later realize that they miss home, they don’t fit in or they simply hate the atmosphere. While most students can adapt to change, some people just can’t do it, which then forces some to quit 100%, which is a shame. Even if you find yourself homesick, quit that school and move onto a school closer to home.
Not trying hard – Who said college was easy? Some students have the mindset that they will work as hard as they did in high school (which wasn’t hard). Once they put in little effort, it starts to show off. Since you’ll need a great GPA to get a good job or to move onto other classes, this tends to discourage a lot of students from continuing.
No Money – College is expensive, period. Lots of students work their butts off and aren’t lucky enough to have Mommy and Daddy help them with tuition. They slowly find out they are running out of funds and just can’t go to class anymore. Guess what? No money. No class.
Hate the classes- So many students find out that they simply chose the wrong major. Instead of changing their career plan, many find it easier to just drop out and never go back. Don’t worry if you feel you have to change your major. Instead, find ways to transfer the credits of the classes you have already taken and take it from there.
If you have that gut feeling that you want to drop out of college, don’t do it! There are so many alternatives out there that you can take. Once you drop out of college, many don’t go back. Instead of being satisfied with $30,000 a year, go for that six figure a year income. With hard work and dedication for about four years, it really does pay off in the long run, I promise!
