With the college year approaching, many of you female students (and male) may seem a little intimated by the large parking lots, or parts of the colleges where it’s dark. While it’s always important that you’re aware of your surroundings, you want to play it safe at the same time. If you can’t walk around campus with another student, which I highly recommend, I would advise that you pick up some pepper spray for your key chain in order to scare away potential predators.
Head on over to Amazon
Yes, Amazon sells more than just books, they have a wide selection of pepper spray as well. With their huge selection, browse through them all, and find one that suits your needs. Pepper spray is very easy to use, and should never be played with.
Try a local security store
No matter where you live, you may want to look for a small cop shop, or a security place. Many of these places have great alternatives to pepper spray, as well pepper spray themselves. If you go to a place like this, be sure to talk with an expert there. He or she will be able to show you how to use it, and save yourself from many dangers.
Think of alternatives
If you’re afraid of pepper spray, or thinking it may not work, try signing up for some self defense courses at your campus, or off campus. Here, you can learn a lot of techniques to scare off potential bad guys. While I’m a fan of pepper spray, these defense courses can work just as well.
Safety is a main concern for many college students, and as long as you’re aware of your surroundings ,and you try to walk around with another student, you should be fairly safe. If you want to be even safe, consider some of the options above.

Good advice. I always tell my wife to practice holding the pepper spray in her weak hand so that she has her strong hand to help fight away an attacker in case they get too close. Most people automatically grab the pepper spray with their strong hand and try to push away an attacker with the pepper spray in their hand. That does not do any good. So practice holding the pepper spray in your weak hand.
