College is going to be foreign to anyone for the first time, and like anything in life, if you haven’t done it before, you’re going to be clueless on what’s going to happen.  When you’re a freshman in college, I wanted to give you some steps on what’s going to happen when you’re attending college for the first time.

Since orientation is generally mandatory for those that attend college for the first time, I wanted to give you some steps, so that you can be familiar with the situation when the time comes.

Getting your packet: When you first arrive at your college, you’re going to receive a welcoming packet.  This packet is going to contain everything from coupons, to a map of the school.  Hold on to this packet, because you’re going to find it very valuable.

Listen to a speech: Most college orientations are in a bigger room, and here, you’re going to listen to one of the higher ups talk about the school, and what you can expect.  They will most likely go over the rules of the school, and other things like that.

Ask questions: After the speech is done, you’re most likely going to be able to ask questions.  If you have a question, this is when you should ask it!  It never hurts to ask a question if you have one.  If you’re in an orientation class with a lot of people, you may find that it can be hard to get your question across.  If you find you can’t ask one, go up to someone after the lecture, and ask.

Take a tour: Once again, depending on the school you go to, you’ll may or may not have tour guides.  These guides will be able to show you the dorm rooms, the school itself, and many other options on the campus.  Some colleges offer this before orientation, as well as when you come to visit for the first time, but you can expect this at the orientation as well.

Your orientation should be a fun time, because it’s the start of your college career.  Show up, listen to what they have to say, and remember, if you have any questions, be sure to ask away!
