One golden rule that you’re going to learn when you go to college is that you’re never EVER going to want to purchase a textbook at a brand new price.  Not only are you going to get ripped off, you can literally save 80-90% off the list price when you make a used text book purchase.

There are so many places that you can head to.  I decided to list 6 places that you should check out that have quickly become my favorites.

  • Amazon: Everyone loves this mega giant.  Amazon has just about every book available and the cool thing about them is that you can make your purchase for a used book.  What you want to do is search for the book and from there, you will want to look in the used section.
  • Half.com: A lot of students pass over this website, but what I have found is that they have great used book deals, if not better ones than those of Amazon.  You will want to consider this store, when you’re ready to make a purchase.
  • Campus Book Rentals: If you don’t feel like buying, you may want to rent.  This is where a place like Campus Book Rentals come in.  This is a great place to pick up a book for the semester, and pay next to nothing!
  • Book Byte: Book Byte is sort of under the radar but many students tend to enjoy them.  I did a search on some textbooks and while they were slightly higher than a few other books, I found them to be the cheapest for some other particular titles.  They are worth a shot, when you’re comparing prices.
  • Barnes and Noble: The last one on the list is Barnes and Noble.  Just like Amazon, they have a great selection, but what you’re going to find out is that their used section is slacking just a little bit.  This doesn’t mean that you’re not going to find a deal though!

When you’re ready to make a used college text book purchase, make sure that you keep these sites in mind.   By comparing and using these 5 websites, you’re soon going to find out that you can save a lot of money by purchasing used!
