Tips to Writing a Great Persuasive Speech
posted by FindCollegeCards.comSpeech is a class that not every student enjoys. Actually, it’s a class that most college students dread. It is usually out of their comfort zone, and takes some time to get used to. We also have the fear of forgetting our lines, making a fool out of ourselves, and being blown away by a way better speech. If you want to make sure you write an extremely impressive persuasive speech, it is possible! Just consider a few of these tips, and you’ll be on your way in no time.
Topic – Come up with a topic that is interesting to most people. Don’t write about “why you shouldn’t smoke”, or “why you shouldn’t drink alcohol” a majority of us already know, therefore it won’t be interesting. Come up with something unique and something that can involve everyone.
Outline – First of all, before you start anything you will want to create an outline for your speech. This will talk about the intro, your three main points (or more), and a good conclusion and/or last thought. Figure out what the key things are that you’re going to be talking about so that you know what to research.
Information – Make sure that the information you’re getting is credible. Don’t go to a site that looks cheesy, but one that masters the topic you’re speaking about.
Visual aids – You will also want to have good visual aids. Make these nice and neat, and something that really sticks out. People will be able to tell if spent a lot of time on them, or if you just whipped them up the night before.
Stats – You will also want to have good stats. If you present good information and information that most people don’t know, you’ll have a lot more listeners and people interested. Not to mention, most people want to know why they are being persuaded and therefore need a good reason for it!
Practice – You really, really need to practice. You should practice a few times a day memorizing your lines, your movements, and using your visual aids. If you don’t practice, you will notice that you may forget to even make reference to your visual aids.
Writing a persuasive speech or any speech for that matter can be overwhelming and time consuming. Although, once you have all your information down and practiced you will notice that all your time will really pay off!
