Tips for Older Adults Attending College

Are you an older adult that is currently enrolled in college, or is thinking about going to college? If so, you may be a little worried if it’s worth it and if you can succeed in college since it’s been a few years. Many older adults are going to college and are getting a degree so they can work that dream job they’ve always wanted to. If you’re thinking about going in the near future, consider some of these tips listed below to get you on the right path.
- Always have a positive attitude – right from the beginning.
- Save up as much money as you can to put into your savings.
- Think about getting student loans so you can have them paid for in the beginning.
- Always buy your books online on websites like www.amazon.com, unless your college book store is cheaper.
- Try going to college with an old friend of family member so that way you have better support and someone close going through the same thing.
- Never give up even if the class takes several hours of your time.
- Keep in mind that it’s harder work than high school most of the time.
- Don’t get discouraged.
Things to think about:
- Think of college as getting out and interacting with people, while making friends.
- If you go to college you can get the dream job you’ve always wanted.
- You will achieve one of your biggest goals in life.
- You will no longer have to work a low wage job with horrible hours.
- College is made for everyone.
- You will have the option between campus courses or online at most colleges.
- College is hard work but it can be done and is done by several people each day.
- If you put your mind to it and want to succeed you will.
Going to college when you’re older isn’t odd and is done by many people of all ages. You will see that in your classes you will have ages 18 to people in their 70′s even! If you want to go to college do it, and don’t let anyone stop you from getting your degree.
