Are you interested in different cultures and foreign languages? Often students are required to take a certain amount of foreign language classes when in college to get their degree. When taking a foreign language class most students find it a lot more interesting half way through the class then they ever thought it would be. Studying another language and becoming fluent is a major advantage for college students. When knowing more than your first language you are often looked at as a great candidate for certain businesses. If you are seriously considering picking up another language you should definitely consider studying abroad also. Find out the benefits of studying abroad:
You will be living in a whole different atmosphere – You often see pictures of the foreign country in your school books but bringing it to life is a whole different thing. Once you are there you get to see how the country really runs from a personal experience. All those beautiful places you see in your book are now coming to real life.
You will meet new people and make friends – You will find yourself making a ton of new friends when you are in the country you’re studying. The people that you meet will be able to teach you a ton of new things that a book won’t be able to. You will learn all the slang and real conversation talk of the foreign language.
You will learn more than every before – A book can only teach you so much. When you’re in the country you’re studying, you are learning the daily life of the country. You will learn the average day of the country’s citizens. You will see beautiful places, see what it is like to live over there, and you will be able to pick up more of the foreign language than ever before.
You will have a great story to tell – When you get back from the country you will have so many stories to tell and so many memories made. Going to another country will be one of the highlights in your life and something you’ll never forget. You will be able to tell so many people about it and help the students in your class better understand things.
Studying abroad is the quickest way to learn a new language – Going to the actual country is totally different than studying a book all day. Often people who only have book experience loose interest and don’t find it as a must learn after so long. If they go to the country and learn all about it, the more they will want to learn and the more they will keep their interest.
There are so many benefits of studying abroad if you are interested in another one’s culture or language. If you want the best experience, want to learn as quick as possible, and see what life is really like, consider taking a foreign language!

It’s not a hard comparison between text book language, and real live language. When I went to Spain for the first time I noticed that my textbook Spanish could only get me so far- and that wasn’t that far AT ALL. There were so many new words and uses for them that I had yet to learn. Hearing the different Spanish accents and seeing everything in Spanish all day long definitely aided my language learning. I am certain I wouldn’t have progressed so quickly if I hadn’t gone to Spain.
