Grow up – Going away to college is a great opportunity for young adults to grow up. When you have the chance to be away from home, and your parents, you’re taking full responsibility for your actions, and it is a great way to learn to be independent.
On your own – Once you’re away at college, you have the sense that you’re “on your own”. Once again, that is a great way to become independent, and see what it is like to be on your own. We all need that time alone to grow up a little, and we need to learn to take care of ourselves.
New friends – Also, when we break away from the nest at home, we’re forced to meet new people, which means we’ll make a lot of new friends. Friends of course are great to have, and can really make going away to college worth while.
