The Benefits of a Job in College
posted by FindCollegeCards.comThe majority of college students are short on money because of the expensive costs at that point in their life. Between the cost of books, college tuition, a vehicle, gas money, etc, it is hard to save money, and pay the bills. What college students don’t realize is that they can work a job, and maintain school at the same time. Yes, college definitely isn’t easy, but if you manage your time right, working a job can be pretty easy. When we are working a job while going to college there are several things we can benefit from.
Security – When we’re working, and we bring that paycheck home at the end of the week we have a sense of security. It feels good to bring home money, and know that we have money coming in every week.
Spending money – In college, students like to go out and have fun. Although, how can you do that if you don’t have the money to spend? Give yourself some spending money, and go out and have some fun!
Saving money – Saving money is a must if you want security. It is never a good feeling knowing that if a unexpected bill came up, you’d have no money for it. Save up a good amount of money simply by throwing in 10%+ of your paycheck each week into savings.
The bills – Also, if you want that nice new car, want good car insurance, need money for gas, your cell phone bill, and all the other must haves, you need money for the bills. If you don’t work, you won’t have the money.
Back up – Once again, it is nice to know that you have a back up plan if you are currently working. If you needed money fast for something, at least you know you have a paycheck coming in at the end of the week.
As you can see, it is pretty hard to go through college without having a job. For you to feel secure, have fun, and pay the bills a job is a must. Manage your time appropriately and you’ll have no trouble doing both!

Jake here from the Office Live Outreach Team. I think another important benefit that was left off this list is the experience gained from working a job/internship during college. It looks great on a resume when work experience is advertised on top of academic accomplishments, especially when applying for that first job after graduation. For students who are currently searching for their first post-university position, internship, or even just a college job, Microsoft’s Office Live Students page provides numerous resources about resume doctoring and job hunting. Check it out at http://www.facebook.com/officelivestudent.

Something else to keep in mind is that while it is important to have a job to help pay the bills and expenses from college life, you also have to make sure that it doesnt interfere with your studies as much as possible.
