Student Car Insurance: Saving Money
posted by FindCollegeCards.com
If you’re in the market to insure your car as a college student, did you know that there are many ways to save so that you don’t have to pay full price? If you’re under the age of 25, you’re going to find that your rates are going to be quite higher than someone over that age like your mom and dad. This is why I recommend these tips when doing your research.
Start your research online
When you start to look for quotes online, look at sites like Esurance that allows you to compare quotes from a ton of insurance agencies in your area. Instead of calling each one up individually, you can place your information in the search box and get quotes directly from the agencies online. This is a great way to price compare and get your quotes all in one place.
Look for the good grade discount
Many insurance providers are going to give you a discount just for getting good grades. If you have a GPA over 3.0, you may be eligible for this discount. They aren’t going to tell you about this one all the time, so I would recommend you ask them before you sign up.
Drive less to save money
A great way to save money on your car insurance is by driving less. This is great for those that either live on campus or drive less than 5,000 miles a year. The less you drive, the more you’re going to save. Make sure you let your agent know that you don’t a drive a lot annually in order to save money.
Get a higher deductible
When you get a higher deductible, you can save hundreds each year so make sure you get quotes from each deductible number. Since agents want to make the most money, they will place you on a $500 deductible. Ask them what it would cost for a $1,000 deductible and so forth. If you get into accident, just make sure you have that $1,000 set aside just in case something does happen.
Having safety features
Generally, the more features that you have in your car that relate to safety, the better. These features include anti-lock brakes, airbags, a car alarm system and more. If you have these, you can look for a discount on your car insurance.
These are just a few ways you can save money on your auto insurance. When you do compare your auto insurance rates, make sure you ask your agent what discounts you can get. As you get older, you will see your rates drop as long as you’re a good driver.
