Staying safe at collegeWhen it comes to college, safety is going to be a major concern, whether you’re a female or male.  Incidents are reported every day across the globe when it comes down to learning at college.  From petty little robberies to kidnappings, you can’t exclude your college from being safe.  When it comes to your own safety, there are some simple rules that you can follow to ensure your safety.

Always walk in a group

No matter where you go on the college campus, try to get a group together.  You’ll never want to walk across campus by yourself, especially at night.  If you know of someone that parks near you or lives nearby, see if you can walk together.  If that other person walks alone, I’m sure he/she would say yes for their own safety as well.

Don’t dress like you’re rich

I know it’s cool to dress as if you’re worth a million dollars but crooks aren’t the brightest people on the block.  They are going to look for what’s worth money.  This means your designer shoes, purses, glasses or whatever is easy to take.  They also have the conception that having designer things means that you have lots of money, which isn’t always the case.

Stay in well-lit areas

You’ll find that most college campuses are well lit.  If you can stay in these lit up areas, it’s going to be for your own good.  If you find that your college isn’t that well lit, tell the advisory board because if they get enough complaints, they may actually do something about it.

Keep your ears opened at night

You may find yourself taking night classes here and there and if you’re a fan of your Ipod, you may want to leave it in your pocket.  When you’re wearing your headphones, that potential crook may view this as a potential robbery because you may not be able to hear him or her sneaking up on you.

Never be afraid

If you fear that you’re being followed or someone is trying to do something, never be afraid to scream at the top of your lungs or run.  If an incident like this occurs, always make sure you report it to your local police department, as well as your college campus police.  Filing a report, rather than hiding is the best thing that you can do.

Self defense is your friend

Self defense is always your best friend.   Whether you have to take some classes or you have to carry around pepper spray, this is one of the best defenses that you can have.  If you fear that someone is trying to do something bad, take action!

Most college campuses do their best when it comes to safety.  Use your head and stay in well it areas, stick with friends and always report weird activity.  Just by doing these little things, you can avoid many unwanted experiences.
