FruitThe average college student runs a very busy life.  It seems like time is spent either doing homework, going to class or working to pay for the classes.  Whether you’re away at college or going close to home there are some very important things you need to keep in mind.  As always your health always comes first, and is most important.  Listed below are a few things you can do to maintain good health, and still have fun with a busy schedule.

As always eat a well balanced diet

The typical college student is tight on money, runs a hectic life and relies on fast food to get them through their day.  Eating fast food is one of the most harmful things you can do to your body.  Although it is sometimes a tough obstacle to achieve, it is important you treat your body with all the nutrients your body needs on a daily basis.  There are many fun, healthy recipes that cut out the bad foods and supply you with the healthy ones.  This idea is great especially if you stay in a dorm at college.  Find a good friend and plan for days of the week you can cook at each others dorm.  Simply go to your nearest grocery store and pick out a cooking magazine today!

Get plenty of exercise

We’ve all heard it before “You need up to 30 minutes of physical activity daily.”  That saying was said for a reason.  Exercise is not only one of the top stress reducers; it is one of the healthiest things you can do for your body.  When you exercise you are fighting against your risk of developing one of the #1 killer in America heart disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity, and osteoporosis.  When you get exercise into your diet you are providing a self-esteem that will improve tremendously. You’re body releases endorphins which improve mood and the way you feel about yourself.  Exercise is thought of boring and too much work.  You don’t have to spend hours at the gym to meet your fitness needs.  Simply go to the park with your friends and play your favorite sport, take your dog for a walk or challenge your self to some laps in the pool.

Get 8 hours of sleep a night

The average college student finds themselves partying until early in the morning and realizes they have class in just a few hours.  Since they are already up partying they often choose to just never go to bed or get just a few hours of sleep.  Not only does this make it impossible to concentrate while in class but it also is very harmful to the body.  Whether you’re up doing homework, or working late at night and then have school in the morning it is important to adjust those schedules to make sure you are getting the appropriate hours of sleep.  Throughout the years of being a college student your body is already under enough stress, you don’t want to add to it by not getting enough sleep.

Make time for having fun

When you’re in college, schoolwork and work may take up a ton of time. You then get annoyed with how you never get to see your friends and or have fun.  Although work and school make take up a lot of your time, there are always ways to sneak in some fun.  Whether you and your friends are in the same class our not you can always study together.  Find a place like Starbucks with a nice, comfortable atmosphere and hang out.  You can catch up with your friends and homework at the same time.  Also if your schedule is hectic try doing the majority of your homework on your day off so you feel free throughout the week.  Getting the majority done in one day will reduce the stress of worrying about it throughout the week, and will leave you time to still have fun.  Another idea is once you know the semester is coming to an end, plan a little road trip with your friends.  With all the school work and working you’ve done you’ve certainly earned a fun trip with your friends, this will give you something to look forward to throughout the semester!

There are many important things you need to make sure you fit into your schedule when in college.  There is nothing more important than your health.  Eat right, exercise, sleep in and make time for some fun!  Just go day by day, take a deep breath and relax!  You should be proud of yourself for coming as far as you have already!
