One way to insure a good grade in political science is too start your own “Political Party” basing it on the politics of American society. You can easily start your party by inviting a few friends out to enjoy some pizza while explaining your whole purpose behind the idea. Appoint yourself as chairperson and appoint your friends in some very important positions such as secretary, treasurer, and other positions. All you need to do to declare a convention is to have a meeting bringing together the founders of the party.

You will need to name your party, write some bylaws, draft a constitution and draft important issues that your party plans on addressing during the school year. You may find that your political science teacher is willing to let your project become an alternative to your term paper. Each state has rules governing a political party so you should make sure that you are abiding by the laws governing your political party. You do not have to be extravagant when you are declaring that you are having a convention for your party just call together those who helped you start the party and invite other students and professors to your meetings. You should adopt some worthwhile policies or important issues that your party members will work on to help change the situation that society faces.  Perhaps if it is during election year you might be able to get a candidate to run for office as a Senator or even for President. You may not be able to get another Ross Perot but still this is an impressive item for your resume.

When you do want to get any important issue on the ballot you will need to get many signatures from the local people in the town and even the state depending on the type of issue and who it will effect. A local issue that is for the city or township does not require as many signatures as a major issue that would affect the state. You should try to work on an issue that people are willing to accept and will not cost more money in taxes. When you plan on running a candidate for any political office you will need the backing of many people. You will first need to start getting people who are willing to back the candidate financially as well as giving the candidate verbal support. It is wise to pick someone who is known in the community if at all possible. You need to start with your inner circle of friends and then work outwards. You might be surprised and find that your candidate might get a lot of votes having public approval is a very valuable thing not only for you but for the candidate. Starting your own Political Party in college is a terrific way to break into politics.
