Tips on Saving Money in College
posted by FindCollegeCards.comWe all love to save money, and when you’re going to college, you’re probably going to want to save money as well. These 3 effective, yet powerful tips should help you save a fortune during your college career.
Buy Your Books Online
Buying your school books online or from someone second hand is one of the easiest ways to save some money while you are attending college. School bookstores charge outrageously high prices for the books that they require you to have. This is one of the ways the school gains revenue. Perform searches on Ebay, Amazon,or even Craigslist for those required books and ten to one you will find it much, much cheaper. Also, when purchasing your books second hand, do not be afraid to haggle. Haggling is expected and can save you some major cash down the road!
Apply for Scholarships
Scholarships are a wonderful way to save money during college. They are free money to pay for your tuition, dorm fees, books, and sometimes enough is left over to help with your living expenses. Scholarships can be awarded for essays, talent, auditions, academics, and much, much more. There are many ways to find and apply for the numerous scholarships out being offered each year. Your college or university should have a listing of available scholarships in their admissions office or you can do a search on the Internet and find hundreds of scholarships that you qualify for. From there just apply and see the money roll in!
Be frugal
The best way to save money during college is to just plain watch how much you spend. Budget your money each week to flow with your financial needs and always put a little back into an emergency fund. Instead of ordering a pizza for dinner, make Ramen Noodles instead. Need a new outfit? Go to a thrift store and find some bargains. Being frugal is truly the number one way to save money while you are in college. Placing all three of these proven methods into your collegiate life will immensely help you stay financially afloat during your education.
