Renting an Apartment for the First Time
posted by FindCollegeCards.comAh, it may finally be that time for you to live on your own. This means no parents around, and endless freedom. Being on your own is a great thing, but it also comes with a lot of responsibility. Renting an apartment is a luxury, but it also brings in the bills. If you’re thinking about renting an apartment for the first time, be sure to consider these tips listed below. There is a lot to learn, so if you can be informed a little more take the advice and guidance.
Locations – First of all, you want to find a good spot to stay. Find an area that you like, that you’re comfortable with, and a place that is near by a lot of things.
Is it affordable? – Now that you have a location in mind, you want to ask yourself, is this affordable to me? Take a look at how much you make per month, and see if you have money to pay the rent, if you have spending money, and if you can save at least 10% of each month’s pay.
Utilities- You will also want to factor in utilities. Be sure to check which utilities are included when you stay at your apartment. Write down which ones are, and which ones aren’t. For the ones that aren’t included write down how much each one will cost each month. Then, add that to your total rent payment. Can you still afford it?
Did you read it well? – If you’re pretty sure you want to settle down at a certain location, make sure you read over everything well. Read all the papers word for word before you sign anything.
Credit score – What’s your credit score like? A lot of places won’t let you rent if you have a bad credit score. So, hope that yours is okay, and that they will accept it.
The move in – Ah, finally, the day you get to move in. Make yourself at home, throw a party, and get used to your new way of living!
Moving into an apartment is scary, exciting, time consuming, and rewarding all at the same time. You will really give yourself a chance to learn responsibility, and you will finally see what it’ s like to live on your own. Good luck!
