Students often have a lot of stress on their shoulders when in college. Between work, school, homework and just life in general there is a high level of stress. There are a lot of ways to reduce stress as a college student. A way to avoid stress and make learning easier is by improving your study habits. If you study the right way you can easily knock off hours of study time and learn twice as much. When studying there are certain places you should study and some places you should not. Below is a list of places that you should aviod when studying for school.
Your house. You should never study your books and notes at your house. There will always be distractions at your house. Whether your siblings or your parents are trying to talk to you or you notice things around the house that need to be done, it calls for distraction. If you take the time to study you should always study where it is quiet and a peaceful environment.
Your friends house. If you and a friend want to get together to study that is great. Although you should avoid going to their house as well. They will have the same problems you would at your home. Too many distractions, students will also want to take a break and spend some time just hanging out. Find a place where you can’t play video games, go on the internet or be distracted.
On your bed. Never study on your bed. You want as close to a classroom setting as you can. If you lay comfortabley in a bed with your head on your pillow, you are going to fall asleep. Always sit up in a chair and have a table in front of you.
The mall or crowded areas. Often students will meet half way and go to the mall to study. Whether they go to the food court or a sitting area, they will be distracted. You will want to take more breaks than usual and be tempted to shop. Avoid areas where there are a lot of distractions and people.
The living room. Students often come home from school, plop their back pack on the couch and turn on the TV. It is okay to do your homework in your living room if there are no distractions but never have the TV on while studying. You will find yourself watching the TV more than you are studying. You should never watch TV especially because you will be listening to the TV instead of listening to yourself read in your head. Therefore you will not absorb any of the information you’ve just read.
Where you study is just as important as how you study. To get the most out of your study time I highly suggest you avoid the places listed above. College is important and something you want to take seriously. Find a quiet place study for an hour and take a break. You don’t need to cram all your study time in at one time. Once you’re done reward yourself with what you find fun. Avoid these places and find your studying a lot easier!
