Networking Tips for College Students
posted by FindCollegeCards.comNetworking is probably one of the most important things you can do when you’re attending college. Whether you network with a professor or classmate, these are the people that can possibly help you with jobs, advice, etc in the future. Now, how do you network, one may wonder? There are many ways to network on campus but it’s your job to take action and do it. Trust me, it will benefit you in the long run.
Make business cards
The first thing I would advise you do when you start up school is make simple business cards. You can make things like this straight from your computer. Just put your name, your address, e-mail address, and phone number on it. This way, when you meet someone that you want to keep in contact with, you can hand them one. Make sure that you always carry a handful at all times.
Attend campus events
No matter what college you go to, you’re always going to find campus events. From clubs to parties, this is a great way to network. Check your campus schedule to find out where you can meet up with people that share your interests. When you attend the event, make sure that you’re not shy and you interact with as many people as possible.
Classrooms
Every college is different when it comes to classes. You’re going to find that some classes have 400 people and some have 30. When you’re attending classes that relate with your major, make sure that you find some friends in the class that you can not only study with but keep in contact in the long run. You never know if they land a job in the future and they are looking for someone like you to get a job as well.
Network with teachers
Many students are afraid to network with professors thinking that they don’t want to relate with the students but this couldn’t be further from the truth! Believe it or not, there are a lot of professors out there that actually have jobs outside of the college. They may be able to put in a good word or even they don’t, you can always ask them if you can use them as a reference. College teachers are great for resume references.
Networking is a powerful tool when it comes to job finding. In fact, many people find their job though someone else. Meet as many people as you can when attending college and make sure you keep in contact, even if it’s an email.

It’s quite a job for a student to do networking if they haven’t been too social. But now, it’s possible to connect with other students, mentors, and potential employers in the internet. One site that offers such is nuresume.com-a student resume network where students get to build their free resume online, brand their portfolios, post jobs wanted ads, and a whole lot more. A head’s up for students out there who are interested in building that online professional identity+networking.
