When in college, the atmosphere is new to us and therefore it is easy to make a few mistakes here and there.  Especially during freshman year do we make a lot of mistakes.  It takes time to adjust, learn how things work, and to get a feel for what college is like.  To avoid making the common mistakes made by college students, consider a few of these tips below!

College choice – First of all, a lot of college students go to a certain college simply because their friends or significant other are going there.  Don’t let this be your situation.  You will make friends, and you will find friends that will go to the same school.  You should also consider going to a community college your first two years.  This will allow you to stay home, work a part-time job, and save up more money.

Costs – You want to make sure you get the best prices for your classes and college costs.  Therefore, you should take into consideration how much your college classes are going to cost each year.  You should also do all of your college shopping online (especially books.)  Check out websites like Amazon to save you money!

Skipping – Don’t get into the habit of skipping class.  If you do, you will find how easy it is to get sucked into skipping all the time.  Also, make sure you’re there for the first day of college!

Not researching professors – Whenever you sign up for a class, make sure you research the professors! A lot of college students are unhappy with how their semester went because of their professor.  So, be sure to research them ahead of time.

Dropping – Never let your grades get too bad that you need to drop the class.  This means you just wasted all your money and time for nothing.  Avoid dropping, and instead get your grades up so you at least get some credit.

Cheating – Never ever cheat in college.  You will definitely get caught!  Not to mention you could get banned from the college all together, and have that on your records!

It takes time to learn how college works.  So, if you want to have a successful year, and make good decisions, you want to make sure you avoid making these mistakes above!
