1100282_country_buttonsIf you’re planning on taking a foreign language in college, you may be afraid that it’s a lot of work.  The words foreign language already shows you that everything you’re going to learn will be foreign to you.  Experts also say that it is hard to learn a foreign language after the age of 11-12.  So, how can you succeed in a foreign language class if it seems to be so “hard’?  Learning a foreign language can be a challenge, but it can also be a fun and very rewarding class for your future.

If you’re taking a foreign language in college and you want to make sure you succeed this time around, there are many tips to get you on the right track.  Learning a foreign language can be a lot of fun if you learn the right way.  We love what we’re good at, so if you can be good at it, you’ll find much more of an interest in the language.

Take good notes – It is important to take good notes in college classes, but especially for foreign languages.  Always pay attention to the teacher, take down the same notes he/she has displayed, and take notes from the book to study from.

Pronunciation – Practice your pronunciation.  This is a very important thing to do if you want to continue taking the foreign language.  To master the pronunciation can be tough, but it is definitely possible.

Adjectives, Verbs, Nouns, etc – Be sure to take good notes on things like nouns, adjectives, verbs, and so on.  Take good notes, study them, conjugate them and really memorize them.  If you know these words, you’ll be able to put sentences together in no time.

Ask questions – If you have a question and you don’t understand something the teacher is talking about, raise your hand and ask a question!  Don’t ever hesitate to ask.  The professors already know everything they’re showing you.  They’re doing their best to explain what they know to you, and if something isn’t clear, be sure to clear it up.

Find a study buddy – It is always a good idea to find a study buddy.  Find someone in the class that you can interact with during classes, for group assignments and study buddy you can work with to study for your next test.
