How to land a job as a college student

Consider an internship

In order to get your foot into the door at a lot of these major companies, you’re going to find that you’re going to have to consider an internship.  Sure, you may not get paid, but it’s a great way to get your foot in the door, and start your career.  Just think about it this way.  You can work for free for 8+ weeks, and afterwards, you could potentially have a fantastic career the rest of your life.

Don’t wait until the last minute

A lot of college students make the mistake of waiting until the last minute when it comes to a job search.  What you’re going to want to do when searching for a job is start in your senior year.  This way, you’re already going to be a year ahead of the game.  Let future employers know of your situation, and you will find out that many will understand.

Flexibility is key

If you’re willing to relocate after college, you’re going to find out that 9 out of 10 times, you’re going to land a job.  If you look around you, and spot the college graduates that can’t land a job, it’s because they simply don’t want to move.  Relocating isn’t going to harm you, and if you don’t like it, you can always move back, and say that you tried.

Go to all career fairs

There are always career fairs going on in your area.  Whether they are at a hotel, or maybe their at your local college.  Keep your ears peeled when watching the local news, or reading your local paper.  You will find that career fairs love to advertise.

Make sure your resume is up to date

If you’re applying for jobs, and you just can’t find out why you can’t get hired, it could be because of your resume.  Consider services such as e-resume that will look over your resume, and critique it for you.  It’s essential that you have a professional looking resume, in order to land your dream job.

Gather up references

Employers love to see references, and if you can get some powerful ones, that’s going to help you out tremendously.  Try, and gather professor information, as well as other students that are on the up, and up.  This will not only be great for a networking tool, it will make your resume look great as well.
