Going away to college can be very overwhelming at first.  You are probably wondering what your roommate will be like, if you’re going to like it there, what you need for school and everything else under the sun.  When going away to college there are a few items you will need for your college dorm room.  To make it easier and less confusing there is a list below of things you may want to consider:

Microwave – You will want to purchase a microwave for your dorm room since most colleges don’t supply them.  Something small, inexpensive, and something simple will do just the trick.

Music – Something that plays music is a must.  Whether you have an Ipod, a computer that plays music, or a stereo it will work.  Music is just something nice to have when studying, cleaning, or just as background noise.

Bedding – You will want to make your bed as comfortable and as close to home as you can.  Be sure to get a nice pillow, sheets, and comforter.  A good nights sleep is very important when in college.

Small Refrigerator – Since a dorm room is rather small it is a good idea to get a smaller sized refrigerator.  Just something small and simple will work.  Think of how much stuff you will want to keep in there and plan around that for the size. 

Computer – Every college student should have some type of computer whether it’s a laptop or desktop.  They are very important for note taking, writing papers, and the Internet.  Having your own computer makes things a lot easier when it comes to doing homework.  You will not have to worry about going down the busy library, and the library hours.  When you have your own computer you can save any documents you want and use it whenever you want.  These are very highly recommended for college.

All these items may seem so overwhelming but they really aren’t.  Be sure to give yourself enough time to plan and get things ready.  College is a great way to learn responsibility and can be very fun and an easy way to make friends.  Have fun!
