I Hate My College – What to Do
posted by FindCollegeCards.comCollege is a fun experience for some, but for others, they just find it to be awful. While you shouldn’t give up just yet, you’re going to find that you don’t want to go 2 years into school and just give up. Not only are you going to be wasting a lot of money, you will more than likely not have a “skill” to get a good paying job.
If you’re hating college, there are a few things that you can do, when you want to make yourself either like it a little more, or make yourself feel a little better.
Look at your major
The problem may be in the classes that you’re taking. If you’re hating the college major that you have chosen, you shouldn’t feel bad, because students change their career paths all the time. If you want, meet with a career counselor to discuss your career.
Check out your college in general
If you’re finding yourself homesick in your second year, you may just want to live at home. There’s a good chance that you can get a great education a few miles away from your home. There’s nothing wrong with living at home and going to school.
Get involved with your school
If you’re finding yourself sitting in your dorm, or just bored with life, you may want to look for some activities. Find some that relate to your field, or just find some that interest you. This is a great way to meet new people and have fun.
Take a break
While I don’t recommend this one, you may want to just take a semester off. You may find that it is hard to get back in the rhythm of things, but it can refresh your brain and get you going again.
Just duke it out
It’s not uncommon to hate your first year. While it will take a while to get adjusted to, you will find that after a while, you will really begin to like it. Sometimes, you will find that things like this will grow on you, trust me!
Think of life without a college degree
Sure, you don’t need a full 4 year degree to get a good job, but you’re going to need a good “skill” in order to get a good paying job. Do you want to be a cashier the rest of your life? Flip burgers? While some people may like this, it sure doesn’t pay a lot!
College really is a great experience and not only will it better you for the future, you should be open minded. There are going to be times when you hate it, but as long as you work hard, focus, and just think that it’s only going to last a few years, you shouldn’t have problems at all!
