It's been a long time since I went to college, but I still remember doing all these things and your tips certainly work! I would throw in one more - buy second hand. Items like textbooks, bicycles or cars, even formal clothes... we bought these from our seniors who were glad to get a few pennies back on their purchase, and we got dirt cheap prices!
