How to Request Official College Transcripts
posted by FindCollegeCards.comOnce you finish up college, or maybe you’re going to find yourself transferring to another college, you’re going to find that 100% of the time, the other college is going to want to get your transcripts.
The reason that they want your transcript is based on the fact that they want to make sure that for starters, you have attended the college and they also want to see what courses are going to transfer to their university.
How to get your official transcripts
When an employer or a university requests an official transcript, you can only get this by having them send it to the other party. The reason this is, is because they will stamp it with a certified seal to ensure the other side that the transcripts are real.
Yes, you can request transcripts yourself for your own records, but this will be considered, “unofficial.”
To get your transcripts, you can either get them by heading to your admissions office, or if you wish, you can also request them online. To find this, a quick Google search can yield some great results. Search for something along the lines of “[school name] transcripts.”
What will be required from me?
99% of the of the colleges out there are going to charge you a fee in order to get them. This fee can range anywhere from a few dollars to as much as $50. They will generally tell you how much it’s going to cost before you request them.
How long does it take to get them?
If you pick them up at the college, you can get them within seconds if you want an unofficial copy. If you want to get an official copy, you will have to more than likely wait 2-4 weeks for the college to mail it out.
What is on it?
On your transcript, it will state the college you went to, the courses you took, the grades, as well as your GPA. This is everything that the prospective employer, as well as transferring college will need to know.
