201106_girls_readingWhen we go away to college, we often worry about whether or not we’re going to get along with our college roommate.  Although, most college students make a very good friendship with this person surprisingly.  You never know what to expect, but if you’re looking to make sure the two of you get along, consider a few of these tips.

Open mind – Before you arrive at your dorm room, you want to have an open mind.  Don’t think you’re going to “hate” this person, and once you see them, don’t judge them.  A lot of people say they can tell what the persons going to be like based upon looks, but looks can sometimes be deceiving.

Respectful – You also want to be respectful.  One of the most common things roommate argue about is one is trying to study, while the other one is being loud, and wants to have friends over.  If your roommate has a lot of work to do, don’t be disrespectful!

Clean – It is also an issue that one person is very clean, while the other one is somewhat of a slob.  If you’re the slob, try to clean up your messes and keep your room clean.  Don’t make your space dirty and a place they don’t want to be because of you.

Meet friends – Try to get along with your roommate and their friends.  At some point you two are going to have a party of have friends over, so get to know them before this.  It will give you something to look forward to.

Helpful – Having a roommate can be a lot of fun if you make the best of it.  Have this person be your study buddy, someone to hang out with, and someone to share your college memories with!

A lot of college students worry about meeting their roommate, then find that they are great friends by the end of the year.  You can also make that happen if you consider a few of these tips!  Don’t make this year something you dread, but something you enjoy!
