Getting health insurance as a studentHealth insurance is extremely important in anyone’s life, and if you’re not insured right now, you’re taking a huge risk, that may cost you a ton in the future.  Even if you can’t afford, you have to find ways to pay a hundred dollars or so a month, rather than thousands for a surgery you could have covered.

When it comes time to get student health insurance, here are some ways that you can find cheap, and affordable health insurance that works for you.

Check with your parents: You may be able to stay on your parent’s health insurance, if they have it.  Ask them to call up the insurance company, and see what the rules are with full time college students.  Generally, if you’re going to college full time, you’ll be able to stay on your parent’s insurance, which won’t cost you much down the road.

Find your own with eHealthInsurance: eHealthInsurance is my favorite tool online, and it’s what I used to find my own health insurance policy.  You’ll simply input your information, and it will show you quotes from all of the leading health insurance companies across America.  Every policy is going to vary in price, but make sure you know what you’re getting.

Check with your college: Most bigger colleges have their own insurance companies that they work with.  If you have student loans, they will simply bill your loans at the end of your college career.  This makes it very easy for you, if you can’t afford to pay the bills today.

Look into government programs: The government has plenty of programs that you can look into.  Most of these programs have an income requirement, and is geared toward those not making a lot each, and every year.  Check with your local city health services department to see what they can do for you.
