Like many colleges, you’re going to find that you’re going to most likely need an internship in order to finish off your degree. Now, the question is, “How do I find an internship in my local area, and can I get paid?” While most internships don’t pay you, I’m going to give you a little advice on how you can find a paid internship.
Know where you’re going to explore
Before you set out, and hunt for your job, you want to know what field you’re going to explore. Obviously, you’re going to want to look at your degree, and see where you’ll suit the best. If you’re studying to be a computer programmer, don’t sign up for a cook job. I think you get the clue here.
Check with your college offices
Every college has a career office, and this is a great place to start your search. Set up an appointment with an advisor, and see what they can do for you. Tell them what you’re looking for, and see what companies in your area are looking for interns. Remember that even if you don’t get paid, this is a great way to get your foot in the door.
Network with those you know
Many people in today’s economy get their jobs from people they know. This is why it’s always essential to network. If you don’t network, your chances of finding any job are quite slim. Ask your friends, and family to see if they know of anyone that’s looking for internships at their local business.
Job fairs can help as well
When you think of a job fair, you probably think of jobs that are for professionals. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Look up job fairs in your local area, and attend them. Dress to impress, bring your resume, and let them know what you’re looking for. Many employers will perk up when they hear you’re looking for an internship.
