How to Choose the Right College
posted by FindCollegeCards.comAfter high school graduation, there is a lot of thought about future college years. You’re probably thinking about what field you want to study, if you want to go away to college or if you want to go to a community college, and which college you want to go to. All of these are quite overwhelming to think about since you want to make all the right choices for your future. If you’re having a hard time deciding which college you want to go to, continue to read below. Listed below are some things to consider when choosing your future college.
Public vs. private – One of the first questions you want to ask yourself is, “Do I want to go to a private school or public?” This is usually pretty easy to answer but is important for choosing the right college.
University or community? – Another question you’ll want to ask yourself is whether you want to go to a university or community college the first two years?
TIP: It is highly recommended that you go to a community college the first two years. You’re going to get the same classes, credits and same experience but pay a lot more to go to a university, not worth it! If you’re looking to save money, go to a community college. Also, the first two years are just your general education classes, not even your major ones yet.
Education – You also want to go to a school that has a good program for your field of study. If you want to become a nurse and you’re going to a tech school, it’s probably not the best choice for you. Find a college that has really good reviews and a good program for your field of study.
Distance – Make sure you’re okay with the distance of your college as well. If you get homesick easily or don’t want to drive hours to get home, choose a school that is closer. Distance can play a huge part in how happy you are with the college. Think this one over a few times!
Atmosphere – This is especially important if you’re planning on going away to college. If you don’t like the atmosphere of the school, you most likely will want to come home. Find a place that you’re comfortable with and a place you could see yourself living at for a while.
As you can see there are a few things to keep in mind when choosing the right college. College is a big step in a young adults life so you want to make sure you think things over well. Keep the ideas above in mind and make sure you do what you want, not just what your friends want. College should be all about you not what others want you to do.
