Are you planning on attending college for the first time in the near future?  If so, you may have several questions that you need answered.  One of those questions may be “How do I know if I’m choosing the right college?”  This is a questions that many people have in the beginning.  It is a huge decision, what college you choose because it will pretty much make or break your college years so you want to make sure you choose the right one.  Although, how do you determine whether this is the right college for you?

Will you be happy? – Do you think you will be happy at this college?  Does it seem like something you’ll like?  A good way to determine this is by getting a tour or the college before you enroll and start attending.  Once you see it for the first time you will have a pretty good opinion right off the bat.

It is an okay distance? – A lot of college students get homesick when they first go away.  Do you think you will be okay with the distance it is away from your friends and family?  Are you able to get in the car and get to your house or home town in a reasonable time?  This is something to think about if you plan on coming home for the holidays or weekends.

Do I know anyone? – Do you know anyone that is going to the same school?  If so, you’ll feel more comfortable and will have at least one person you can ask questions or hang out with.  If not, you will have a chance to make plenty of friends.  It just depends on if you want to know someone from the beginning or can make friends easily.

Do they have my major program? -  Does this college have a good program for what you’re studying?  Lets say you want to become a nurse, you’re going to want to go to a school that is known for nursing and same with any other program of your interest.

How is the atmosphere? – Do you like the atmosphere and the colleges surroundings?  Do you feel comfortable here like you will be happy or do you get a negative feeling?  You want to make sure this is the right school for you and the atmosphere is a very important thing to consider!

There are many things you should ask yourself when you’re first deciding a college that you want to attend.  If you’re really stuck consider some of these points above and be sure to do a tour of the campus to make sure you have some idea of what to expect!
