Are you a college student that is currently going to school? And one more question, do you get enough sleep on a regular basis?  If so, you beat the average college student, if not, you’re not the only one.  Many college students today are NOT getting enough sleep or the hours they should each night.  It is said that 6-8 hours is the minimum you will want to get each night!  So, if you don’t get that, consider you’re self in pretty bad shape.

Sleep is very important especially when you’re a college student!  College students run very busy lives and are constantly involved with going to class, studying, working on homework, working a part-time or full-job and just keeping their life in order and organized by simply doing things around the house.  With all the activities college students are involved with, it is very hard to get 6-8 hours of sleep each night.  Although it is hard, it must be done!  If you’re currently not getting enough sleep on a regular basis see how you may be affected.

Concentration – Concentration is a main thing that is affected.  If we’re going on just 5 hours of sleep and we go to class how awake do you think we’ll be in class?  Not very awake at all!  When we go to class we’re going to absorb nothing, the information will fly right over our heads and we will be trying to stay awake more than we will be paying attention to what the professor is saying.

Health risks – If you’re currently not getting enough sleep you may be seeing some downfalls in your health.  When we are low on energy we often catch colds easily, get sick more often and just don’t feel good in general.  We feel run down, don’t want to do anything and just want to lay down at every point we can.  Lets say you get sick now all because you don’t have enough energy because you aren’t getting enough sleep.  Now we have to take time off work AND school to feel better and now we’re more behind.  See how that works?

Irritable – What happens when we don’t get enough sleep?  We often feel irritable.  We are moody, don’t want to do anything and often blame the world for our problems.  Don’t become a grouch all because you didn’t get enough sleep!  Instead take some time for yourself and sleep in!  It is a much better feeling waking up knowing you got a good nights rest!

Dropping grades – When we are too tired, we don’t do well in class.  We don’t listen and we’re not always there so it makes it hard for us to study, remember things like next weeks exam and the homework that is due tomorrow.  Our grades will often fall due to lack of sleep which is something we don’t want!  If school is making you tired, think if you fail because of it and need to do it all over again all because you weren’t getting enough sleep, it’s silly!

Sleep is important for everyone and especially younger adults whose lives are busy 24/7 it seems like.  Not getting enough sleep affects us tremendously and it is very important to get if you want to maintain good health and a healthy lifestyle!
