1163526_orangeWhen in college, students tend to get wrapped up in college parties, stress, and often get homesick if they are away at college.  College can be a pretty stressful time, is foreign to every student at first, and can lead to depression if you don’t handle your situations properly.  To make sure you’re healthy at college, there are a few tips you may want to consider.

  • Make sure you can handle stress.  College can be extremely stressful if you’re going full time or more than full time.  College professors expect a lot from their students, sometimes even a little too much.
  • Don’t take anything personal in college.  If you did bad on a paper or got a bad grade, don’t be too hard on yourself.  College is hard, especially your first semester, so just learn from your mistakes.
  • Always have a healthy lifestyle, especially when in college.  Be sure to get enough sleep each night, eat healthy, and make sure you are happy and having fun.
  • If you’re not already, try to become a little more social.  It is good to get out and about, and to make new friends.
  • Don’t party too hard!  We all know that college students are known for partying, so if you do it, do it responsibly.
  • Be sure to get your annual doctor check ups.  Even if nothing is wrong, it is good to get a physical and to make sure you’re up to date on all your shots.
  • Get active!  Even though college is very time consuming, you want to make sure you’re still active.  Being active gets your blood flowing, and your brain working.  So hit up the gym, go for a walk, or create a sports team.  Do whatever you need to do to get active.

The college lifestyle is definitely different from what we’re used to.  So, make sure you’re open minded, have a positive attitude, and that you start or continue with a healthy lifestyle.  Better grades begin with a healthy lifestyle!
