When away at college most students don’t have a lot of money at this time. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying to they live off of ramen noodles and spaghettioos. Although most students do there are a lot healthier alternatives. You don’t have to pay a lot of money to eat a good tasting meal that’s healthy. There are a lot of meals that college students should keep in mind when away at college. Below is a list of ideas to consider:
Healthy Choice/ Smart Ones/ Lean Cuisine: These dinners are great for a quick and healthy meal. They usually have a great source of vitamins and are rich in protein. They are fast and simple and don’t cause a big clean up when done. These are also great because they are cheap. Get them on sale and get an even better deal!
Soups: Soups are great because once again they are an easy clean up and often have a lot of vitamins. Be sure to get the healthier kinds like healthy choice that are low in sodium and are rich in vitamins and protein. They are also very cheap and are often on sale.
Instant Rice: You can get these in all different types of flavors from chicken fried rice to teriyaki. These only take a few minutes to make and it is also another fast clean up. Have these with some frozen vegetables and you’ll be all set!
Pasta: Pasta can also be a fast, healthy dinner. Bring noodles to boil, drain and add your favorite pasta sauce. This is great because it only takes a max of 15 minutes to prepare. Find noodles that are low calorie and pasta sauce that has vitamins and is low in fat. Also cook this with something simple like frozen vegetables and you’re off to another healthy dinner.
Nachos: Find some healthy tortilla chips that are low in salt and do some shopping for your favorite vegetables. Add tomatoes, peppers, low fat cheese, olives, anything and have a filling meal for half the calories!
There are many dinners college students can have that are healthy and can be made in just minutes in the microwave. Just think of some of your favorite dinners, find the healthier way of making them and pop them in the microwave. These are great for in between classes, for a quick dinner and a healthy dinner!
