Grants are a great way for students to get money for the classes that they can’t afford. The cool thing about grants is that you don’t have to re-pay them, and there are a million of them out there. So, how do you go about finding them for college? I’m going to give you some pointers on how you can potentially get some for yourself, or someone you may know.
Fill out a FAFSA form
The first thing that you want to do is fill out a FAFSA form. FAFSA stands for Free Application for Student Aid. This is a government funded program, and it’s going to show if you’re eligible or not for a grant of some sort. Obviously, the government doesn’t want someone making $100,000 a year coming in, and demanding money for college. These programs are designed for people that need it.
Know what you can get
If you’re confused on grants, the best thing to do is meet with a guidance counselor at your college. He/she is going to be able to direct you in the right path, when it comes to grants. Since there are some many grants out there, you’re going to be confused on where to start, and I don’t blame you! There are grants for low income families, military, and so much more. If you’re in a low income family, your chances of getting a grant are fairly high.
Research GRANTS.gov
If you don’t have time to go down to your college to talk, or you haven’t even research colleges yet, GRANTS.gov is another great resource tool that you can use if you’re looking to find what you’re eligible for. Here, you’ll be able to search for opportunities, and find exactly what you’re looking for. If you do find something that interests you, you can apply directly on their website.
If you’re finding that some of these resources aren’t working for you, there’s a great grant guide online that you may also check out. It only costs a few bucks, but I checked it out, and it is packed with a ton of information.
