When you first start off college, your intent is to find college within the amount of time your degree says its going to take.  So, for example, if your degree is a four year degree, you’re expecting to finish that degree in four years.  What most college students find out down the road is that they don’t plan and end up going to college longer than expected.  In order to graduate college on time, there are a few things that you can do to ensure you finish in that particular time period.

Go to school with a plan – If you’re currently in college right now and you don’t know what you want to do, you’re already on the wrong path.  You want to go to college with an intent on a plan.  If you don’t have a plan, you might have to sit back and think about it.  You’re probably taking classes right now that you shouldn’t be taking.  Sure, college is great and all for the future but you may doing yourself more harm than good.

Meet with a counselor – No matter what college you’re going to, you’re going to want to meet with a counselor to discuss your degree.  Let the counselor lay it out for you to show you exactly when you can graduate.  The best thing you can do is make a plan on what classes you’re going to take each semester.  This is going to give you a better idea on when you’re going to graduate.

Have your syllabus handy – The best college cheat sheet you can have in college is your syllabus.  This is going to show you what classes you’re going to need in order to obtain your degree.  Make sure you look at the classes ahead of time because some classes won’t be held in some semesters.  This may hold you back a little if you find one class can’t be taken during a particular season.

Don’t slack – If you’re only taking one or two classes per semester, you’re already slacking off.  You’re going to want to take at least three-four classes each semester to keep on pace with your degree.  It’s important to be motivated but also remember, you’re not going to want to stress yourself out.  Just make sure that you take as many classes each semester.

Try summer classes – I know summer classes sound like a drag but I’m not saying to take three classes.  Instead, try and take one class each semester.  If you take one class for three years, that’s three classes out of the way.  This almost eliminates a whole semester just by attending class once every summer.

Graduating on time isn’t hard at all.  As long as you make out a plan and you know what classes you’re going to take when and where, you’re not going to have a problem.  Remember, it’s important that you still have a social life as well as a stress free life.  Organization isn’t hard, just take a little time to do it and you’ll be just fine.
