Going to College When You Have Children
posted by FindCollegeCards.com
Many parents often debate whether they should go to school or not when they have kids. Just because you have children doesn’t mean it’s not possible. Going to school is made for everyone. There are many campus and online classes to choose from. There are even online colleges where you never have to leave your home. You can watch your children, avoid day care and go to school all at the same time. Don’t let having children get in the way, think of they future you could make for both you and your child. To make going to college a little bit easier check out some of the ways listed below.
Organize your life. You first need to pick the days that would work best for you to go to school. Classes usually run on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday. There are usually only two days a week for classes. Choose the days that work best for you. Consider all your children’s needs if they have sports, appointments or if you have other things going on.
Take care of yourself. Going to school can be stressful for anyone. Having a child, working and going to school is even more stress. Although it seems horribly stressful, it doesn’t have to be. Get 8 hours of sleep a day, eat healthy and be sure to get exercise into your day. Being stressed out and running on barely any energy is harmful to your health. Take a day off here and there if you need to!
Don’t wait until the last minute. When going to college there are often a lot of exams to study for. Don’t wait until the last minute to do your studying. Do a little bit each day in a quiet area when you can get away from your kids for a while. Waiting to the last minute will make you want to give up and it will seem way too stressful and like it’s impossible.
Create your day. Once you know what days you want to go or if you’re doing online classes find the days you want. Lets say you designated your time to Mondays and Wednesday to do your work. Now create a schedule for those days. In your schedule you should know when you’re going to wake up (get 8 hours), you should have healthy meals throughout the day, at least 30 minutes of exercise (that can even be walking around campus), and when/how long your going to study. Once you have a routine going you will be all set.
Going to school while having children sounds impossible but many people were still able to accomplish their goals. Don’t give up, there is a bigger and brighter future for both you and your children behind the career you’re dreaming of. Take as long as you need, still have fun and just enjoy your college years. College isn’t suppose to be something you hate, you are suppose to enjoy the classes you are taking. It’s all about your attitude, think negatively that’s the road you’ll take, think positively and you’re on the positive road! Make your classes fun, avoid the stress and you’ll be off to a great start. Good luck!
