As a college student, we already know that it’s hard to make a lot of money and since most students are strapped for cash, I wanted to give you some pointers that you can use in order to land yourself a pretty good discount on laptops, and more.

Check the college bookstore: Yes, the college bookstore usually gets the label of having high prices, but you can grab some killer deals on both laptops, as well as software.  Check with your college bookstore, and see what kind of discounts they have to offer.  Don’t buy it right when you see it, but instead compare prices online to ensure that it’s a great deal.

Head on down to eBay: Many people have the assumption that you have to be a student to get a killer deal.  This couldn’t be further from the truth.  You just need to know where look when you’re looking for a good deal.  For instance, research some laptops and then check online.  You’ll be amazed at how cheap some of the laptops are.  You can try other online retailers such as Amazon as well to see what they have to offer.  You may be better off buying new, rather than used so that you don’t have to worry down the road.

Look at the manufacturer: A lot of students think that if you want to deal with the manufacturer of a particular computer company, you have to be a supplier, or store.  This couldn’t be further from the truth.  For example, let’s say that you want to purchase a Gateway.  Hop online, find the number to the company and simply ask.  The worst thing that they are going to say is, “no.”

Ask on forums: College forums such as College Confidential are great to ask questions on just about anything, including getting discounts.  Hop on there, do some research, and even ask questions if you have to.  I’ve found an abundance of information that has helped me through my college career path.

Wait for back to school season: When you’re ready to head back to school, you’re going to find that many retailers online are going to be willing to offer exclusive discounts to college students, as well as High School students.  This is a great time to look for deals that you may want to take advantage of.
