Fears are just apart of everyone’s lives. Whether you have a fear of spiders, or maybe you have a fear of the unknown. Regardless of what it is, I wanted to highlight some of the fears that you may come across in college.
While many of them are going to have some solutions, you have to understand that a lot of them are in your mind. You can only do so much to keep positive. Remember that practice will make perfect when you condition your mind!
The roommate is going to be bad: Sure, you can get your hands on some pretty bad the roommates. The good thing about this is that you can most likely switch out if it gets too bad. Go in with an open mind and see what happens! They may become your best friend over time.
The classes are going to be hard: Trust me, I had the same issues. But you know what? I just told myself that I was going to go in and treat it like a High School classroom. I found college to be just as good a High School, if not better.
I’m not going to know anybody! You’re going to be with hundreds, if not thousands of other people that are going to be new. If you’re not good with meeting people, join clubs, or have small talk with those in class.
I know I’m going to miss home: You’re going to miss home eventually, it’s just human nature. Like anything though, you should get used to it. Just remember that its not permanent and you can always go home during the summers and holidays.
I can’t afford anything there: Most college campuses are near many major cities or towns. This is a great way to pick up a small side job. In fact, you don’t even need to do that. You can also make some money on the Internet as well!
I’m just an unorganized mess: If you’re not the type that can schedule right, that’s fine. There may be a lot of things to do. What I would recommend is that you get a planner, or just use your phone as a reminder service. Technology is your friend nowadays!
Can I live on my own? We all have first! Think of your parents, or your friends that are out in the working world. They all had to start somewhere. You will be just fine, as change is always good.
My friends are going to forget about me: This isn’t the case nowadays with Facebook, cell phones, and more. Stay connected and during your holiday trips, be sure to visit them. After 4 years or so, everything will be back to normal.
Will I be safe? As long as you travel during the day and you’re always in groups, you shouldn’t have much to worry about on campus. Most campuses have a good police force that keep the campus safe.
Everybody has fears and we all handle them in different ways. Why should you stress out about something that you just can’t control? As you can see, there’s a solution for everything. You will soon notice that change is always good and you’ll just laugh at your past fears!
