Are you thinking about attending college in the future?  If so, you may of heard that you need to take the ACT test.  Often students are confused on everything that deals with the ACT test.  They want to know what it is, why it needs to be taken, what’s on it, and everything else under the sun.  To loose some of the confusion, you can find out everything you need to know about the ACT test below.

What is the ACT test? -  The ACT test is just an abbreviated name for American College Test.  It is taken so colleges have a good idea where you’re at on an educational level.  After this test is completed you receive a certain number for your grade, colleges then can look over how well you did. 

What is on the ACT test? -  There are 4 test sections, although there can be 5 (writing is optional).  They include Math, English, Science Reading and Writing (optional). Unlike the SAT this test includes science.  You will be tested on analysis, interpretation, evaluation, basic content, and problem solving also.

How are you graded on the ACT test? - The test is out of 36 total points.  There are 4 scores of 1-36 for each test and a score of 0-12 for the optional essay.  The highest score is 36 points, although this is a rare score.  There is good news though, you are not deducted any points for a wrong answer.  On the SAT test you are deducted 1/4 point for every wrong answer.

How do you score a high grade on the ACT test? – Ever hear the saying practice makes perfect?  Well that’s your answer.  There are many tests and books that you can study from.  You will want to study every day for at least 30 minutes.  Become familiar with how the ACT will run.  Study hard and watch your grade rise, that’s the only answer.  Check out these books, these will get you prepared, and will help you towards a higher score in no time!

How will the college find out my score? -  You will want to first look over all your grades and figure out if you want to send it in or not.  You have an advantage here, you can take it again and try to score better or if you believe you did good you can send in your first one.  This is good because the SAT is sent automatically.  Once you get a grade you want, you will want to find out if you send them through your school or the testing place itself.

The ACT test is something every student is confused about so don’t feel like you’re the only one.   The test sounds scary and confusing to all students at first but if you study some of the books ahead of time you will do just fine.  The biggest hint I can give you is to just familiarize yourself.  Go over what will be on the test, and practice a few times like you’re taking the real test.  Just study, try your best and concentrate!  Good luck!
