Finding an Easy Going Roommate
posted by FindCollegeCards.com
Since a lot of you guys in college don’t want to stay on campus, and would rather get a apartment off campus, you will most likely want to get a roommate, since you will find that it’s going to be awfully hard to pay the bills as a single college student.
What happens when you want to find the best roommate that suits you?
Know what you want: Since you will be getting the apartment, know what you want. You’ll want to write this down in your description when looking for your roommate. If you don’t want smokers, write that down. If you don’t want pets, let them know. You will want to get along with this person, so don’t attract opposites.
Tell them who you are: Never lie about yourself, because you have to put yourself in the other person’s shoes. They want someone that they can get along with as well. So, explain yourself a little bit in the ad. If you’re a 19 year old college student, who smokes, and has a dog, you need to tell people this.
Post your ads online: Sites like Craigslist will let you post your ad for free. Once again, post it, let people know what you want, and see what kind of responses you get. You don’t want to go with the first person that responds, but wait a few days to see how many people respond.
Interview the person: You want to treat your roommates like a job interview. Go meet for coffee, or meet at the apartment, if you want to. This will allow you to get a great first impression. If you don’t trust this person just yet, have one of your friends come along with you. You want to think of safety first.
Set up a roommate agreement: When you find the person that you want to live with, make sure that they agree to your terms, as well as payment. The best thing to write up is a roommate agreement. You want to make it as legal as possible to ensure that the roommate doesn’t run away.
These are all great steps that you can take in order to find the best roommate. By doing this alone, you will find that there’s someone out there for everyone, even when it comes down to a living partner.
