We all know that college isn’t cheap. It if was, we would have a lot more people attending. Although it may not be cheap overall, there are still ways to save money in college. Don’t let the costs of college scare you away. Instead, find ways to still get a college degree for a cheaper price. If you’re looking to go to college in the near future but you’re afraid of spending a fortune, continue to read below to find out how you can save money on college costs.
Commute - The best way to save money on college tuition is by going to a community college for the first two years, or by taking as many classes as possible. Universities are a very expensive school to go to, so if you avoid going to one of those the first two years, you’ll be much better of money wise. Also, note that you still get the same education, just for a cheaper price.
Books – Books are another thing that really break college students. If you can find ways to save money on books, you’ll be all set, and on the road to saving more money. Instead of going straight to your college book store, try doing research for the cheapest prices. Going on websites like Amazon and eBay are great ways to start, and are usually cheaper than your average bookstore.
4 year degree – If you’re thinking about being a doctor, but you know that it will be too costly to go to school for all those years, try attending college for just a 4-year degree. Instead of a doctor, be a nurse, and so on. Four year degrees are very well paying so don’t let that scare you away.
Grades – College students tend to pay top dollar for classes, then they don’t show up, or they get low grades that won’t transfer. If you’re serious about college, and don’t want to re-take classes, you must put in your best effort to avoid paying more money to take the same classes.
There are many ways to make college cheaper. Just find out what is breaking you the most, and look for an alternative way to save money. Don’t avoid college due to the costs, just look for cheaper ways of going, and consider student loans if you don’t have the money right away.

You might also want to think about going to community college first. I was able to get a full ride to a two year school than transfer to Westminster College. It worked great! I got a four year degree in four years for half the cost. Of course, scholarships were a huge help.

Regarding books– If you are taking an English literature class, you often can find the novels you need at the library instead of buying them at the bookstore. Also, I was able to sell my books online for more than the college bookstore offered at the end of the quarter.
