posted by FindCollegeCards.com
You may of heard through a friend or a voice at school that your college offers online classes. Often students don’t know what these are like so they never bother to try and take one. Online classes are great and are a very convenient way of learning. There are many benefits to them and often students like them a lot better than campus classes. If you’re not sure what online classes are like, read a little bit about them below to find out everything you need to know.
They’re conveniant – Online classes are all about you. There is no set schedule like a campus class. Often students who go to college are working part-time or even full-time. College classes can be very hard to go to with such a busy schedule, that is why online classes are great. You can go to college (online) either before work, or after work, what ever works best for you. You will no longer have to worry about taking certain days off work for college.
Online classes saves gas – Often students aren’t just a few minutes down the road from their college, if you are consider yourself very lucky. Many students spend an average of 30 minutes driving to school. That’s an hour total, which means you wasted a lot of gas with your car. With the high prices in gas, no one wants to keep spending their hard earned money on gas, college tuition is enough money.
Interacting with people - If you’re wondering if you can interact with people in your online class the answer is yes. On the site there is every one’s e-mail so you can contact them at all times regarding any questions you might have.
Your professor – You can always meet your online professor at the campus if you need to. Although when you sign up for online classes they give you their e-mail, and a phone number that you can reach them at.
Assignments – You will usually have these assignments called “discussion questions”. Discussion questions are an assignment a professor will assign usually to be done 2 or 3 times a week. What are they? Your professor will ask a question about what your learning and you just have to post your answer, answering the question. It is very easy you just type it up and when you’re done hit post. When you post your answers everyone in the class can read yours along with everyone else’s. Your professor will usually make you comment on someone else’s answer also, as a way of interacting with each other. These are very simple assignments.
Quizzes, tests, exams – These will be given whenever your professor tells you. They will give you a syllabus and you can usually look ahead at what you’re doing in the future. This gives you a good idea when stuff will be due and when you should start studying. Since you are capable of looking in your book for the answers, they set a time limit for when your exam is due. Usually they will give you an hour or hour and a half to take your exam and then it will end. Once it ends you aren’t allowed to go back and finish, it will determine your grade when it ends.
Books – Like all classes you will get a syllabus and on it will tell you what book/books you need so that you can either order them online or go to the book store and get them.
The points listed above gives you a pretty good idea what an online class will be like. Once you get the hang of them, you will see how easy they are to work. They might look intimidating at first because it’s all foreign but you’ll get the hang of it in no time!
