Moving away, or from college is a stressful time, and it does take a lot of planning to move all of your stuff to your dorm room back to either your home, or your residence. When it comes time for moving day, I have a few tips that you can use in order to make the move easier.
Pick a day and find help
Whether you’re moving away, or coming back home, you’ll want to pick a day in the future when you’re ready to move away. I would highly recommend that you find someone to help you like a friend, or even your parents. This is only going to make it easier for you to bring boxes in and out.
Know what you can bring
All colleges have rules when it comes down to living on their property. Since it’s their property, and not yours, they can obviously set the rules. Know ahead of time on what you can, and can’t bring. The rules usually pertain to appliances, and bigger items like furniture, etc.
Don’t bring your whole house
College is only temporary, and while you’re not going to live there the rest of your life, you’ll want to pack only the things you need. Bring entertainment, a TV, some bedding, etc. If you forget the smaller stuff when you get there, you can always run up to the store, and purchase it.
Don’t forget the small stuff!
Packing is stressful, and while you’ll think that you have everything, there are going to be things that you did forget. Don’t forget to bring the smaller things like your cleaning supplies, bathroom goods, and more. The more you remember, the less you’ll have to buy.
Get as many boxes as possible
Boxes are the best way to move things around, and if you don’t have any moving boxes laying around, that’s okay. Check with local businesses to see if they have any boxes laying around, as well as ask relatives, etc to see if they have some laying around. The last thing that you’ll want to do is go out and buy some.
Check in with your college
When you arrive on campus, you’ll want to check in with your college. They will supply you with your key card, or key. This is when you should check out your dorm to make sure everything looks in tact. You won’t want to be charged for something you didn’t damage.
After you check in your dorm, it’s all moving in from there. If you have friends and family help, be sure to compensate them. Buy them a pizza, or give them a gift card for the help. Moving is hard, and once you’re done, you’ll feel accomplished, and hopefully at home!
