When you are a junior or senior in high school you are thinking about going to college and you have many questions that are unanswered. This is a good reason to attend college fairs with some of your questions. You get the opportunity to meet many different admission counselors from many different colleges. You need to be able to make comparisons, check out activities, and find out about the student body at any given college that peaks your interest. When you do go to the table of a college that you are interested in going ask questions do not pick up brochures and shuffle away.
You need not be intimidated remember it is your life and you need answers before making important decisions. You do not have to be afraid or shy about asking questions. Most of these counselors are more than happy to talk with you and answer questions. The counselors are normally there to recruit new students. The counselors realize that if you talk to them asking questions it gives them a better chance to recruit you rather than lose you to some other college.
You are going to be living on campus for a long time so you need to know the personality of the student body. Each college has its own unique personality which is revealed through the student body. When you attend college it is almost as living with someone you need to be compatible. You should ask questions about activities and events that the student body as a whole participate. You can ask if the campuses are politically liberal or are the campus conservative. You can find out if the campus values the arts. The college campus student body might be all into sports and this is good for you to know especially if you are a person who is very athletic or enjoys sporting events.
When you find out the make-up of the student body then you will want to inquire as to the courses they offer and the cost. You also will want to make sure that they offer programs with scholarships or help with funding that can offset your expenses. It is very important when you enter a college to know that the school will be there for you when it counts in teaching, funding, and other aspects of your career. Many colleges offer programs that help a student find the amount of grants and scholarships needed to help them all the through graduation. A college fair is the place you can find out what you need to know from many different colleges at the same time.
