Getting into college can be stressful, and when it comes to writing a college essay, you’re going to find that it’s going to be a lot more work than you think. Since you want to leave a great first impression, a college essay is something you should take your time with, and not write up in a few minutes.
When it comes down to writing a college essay, I’m going to give you a few tips that can potentially increase your odds of getting into a school of your choice. Keep in mind that these colleges get hundreds of applications, and it’s already hard enough for them to weed through them all.
Start early and think often
It’s never to early to think about your essay and college applications. Yes, some colleges are going to have particular themes, while others will let you run your own imagination. The point here is to make sure that you set aside a few hours each week to research your essay topic. Think of creative ideas, and more so that you write the perfect essay.
Jot notes and ask friends
Have you ever had a point in your life where you think of a great idea, but you can’t remember it a few hours later? I know this has happened to the best of us. When it comes to your application, you’ll find that you’ll think of things at the strangest times. When you think of these ideas, jot them down right away. Not only will this prevent you from forgetting it, it will allow you to bring all of your ideas together.
Think of all your strong points
Most essays want you to boast about yourself. Think back until you were born, and write a great life story on all your accomplishments. Have you won any rewards? Do you have any great accomplishments? You want to write thing in here that make the admission office say, “wow!”
Keep it short and unique
Don’t you hate it when you hear those cliche slogans all the time, and people think they are creative when they say it? It can get annoying ,and when it comes down to your application, try and be as unique as possible. You want to get your points across, as well as keep it short. No college official wants to open up and read a 12 page report.
An essay should be unique, from the heart, and really show them why you should be there. By being yourself, this can accomplish more than enough. Work hard, start early, and you should hopefully have a good enough essay to get you in.
