With the economy in the hole today, it’s no wonder why many people want to consider a community college rather than a 4-year college.  If money and an education is important to you, then you’re going to want to read on because you may not know the full benefits of a community college.

Benefit #1:  It’s cheap!

A community college is going to cost you a lot less than a 4-year university in your town.  The cool thing about a community college is that you’re able to go there for the first two years and transfer a majority of those credits to a University nearby.  It’s like going to the University for two years but at a community college price.

Benefit #2:  You can transfer credits

I know, I already mentioned this above but as I mentioned it, you can only go to community colleges for associates degrees.  Community colleges don’t offer four year degrees but if you’re looking to get a four year degree, you can transfer your credits to a University.  Make sure you check out your syllabus to make sure that your credits will transfer.

Benefit #3:  Small classes

You’ll soon find out that in a community college that you’ll have smaller classes.  These class sizes will be anywhere from 20-30 people as compared to a University that will have 100+ people.  If you want more of a personal able atmosphere,  a community college is a place where you can actually learn without all the student interruptions.

Benefit #4:  Open schedules

A University schedule is usually a little more strict than a community college.  You’ll find at a community college that they are a little bit more flexible with their class schedules since more adults will frequent a community college rather than a University.  If scheduling is an issue for you, make sure you check out a community college schedule first.

Benefit #5:  Size of the college

Let’s face it, Universities are huge.  With the dorm rooms, a million buildings and restaurants, etc., it’s hard to get around.  Most community colleges that you run into will have a nice layout that easy for most students to get around.  So, instead of going from point A to point in a half hour, it may only take you 3 minutes at the community college.

Benefit #6:  Employers don’t know

Let’s say you attend that community college for two years and transfer to a four year institution nearby.  As long as all of your credits transfer and you graduate at the four year University, your degree will say the University name and not the community college name.  If you’re worried about the degree saying the community college name, then you have nothing to worry about.

A community college offers just as much as University but the main thing to point out here is the money.  Money is important to anyone, especially college students.  If you’re looking to save and get the same education you may get at a University, you will want to consider a community college.
